Pascal,

> - Is the wanted 3d xtra v2 going to happen and if so when?

It has not happened this release and you all _know_ that nobody can promise
anything about future releases so this is a big fat rosy "I can't say for
sure". Sorry.

> - What kind of changes will there be to the shockwave
> download? Is this a new version of everything or just
> some xtras?

This is not like the MX release in which we did not rev the player, so you
will see an all new Shockwave player (version 10) that will have to be
downloaded in order to play SW10 files. But keep in mind the fact that not
only did we add cross-platform projector publishing but we also added a
"publish as SW8.5" option so you can author in Director MX 2004 but publish
DCR files that will play under the Shockwave 8.5 player! You just won't be
able to use any new features when making such files...

> - The website mentions an updated XML parser. Will this xtra
> be included in the standard download now?

The status of the XML Parser Xtra and whether it's included by default or
not hasn't changed, what has changed is the memory it used to leak. :) The
leak that was occuring each time you called parseString() or parseUrl() has
been fixed.

> - When is the trial going to be available so we can have a play for
> ourselves?

I can't give you a date just yet, sit tight and keep an eye on our site for
any updates about a trial version.

Gem: hey, somebody wanna use embedded fonts on restricted-user Windows
systems? Yeah, that's been fixed too... :)

Juchee! How did you do this? AFAIK its a FOL that nobody can write to the
Font folder as restricted user? Did you revamp the text engine?

Stefan

> Juchee! How did you do this?

The truth is that there are two locations into which we can unpack fonts at
run-time and have the system recognize those as temporarily installed, one
of those is a system folder (and thus restricted users cannot write to that
folder) while the other is a user-specific folder. We made the change from
writing to the system folder to the user's folder so no permission issues
arise.

Nope, sorry. :_(

FYI: I'm about to head out of the office for a few hours (off to MacWorld

As long as you don't activate one of those Lucifer-spawned
autoresponders, that's fine.

How about the bug where embedded fonts cause a crash on Eastern European
OS's?

actually you only need to set font antialias to true to get the crash.
no need to use embedded fonts.
dunno either, if it has been addressed.

I have this issue right now. Is there anything else to fix? only settings
all text member antialias to FALSE is enough? (no double-byte OS to
test... damn, dififcult to find out the origin!)
Is there a hidden technote about that?
Is it only tru for on-stage text members or for ALL members?

thanks!

Yes, that's right, I misremembered. That's the one - it's something of a
huge bug, so I'd like to see it fixed.

Hello Tom

<http://poppy.macromedia.com/~thiggins/flash_integration/flashvideo/index.htm>

The link you are referring to is unfortunately dead. I'm very interested in
how you solved the animating actionscript controllable flash texture
problem.

Could you please post tips on how to do it or could you make a working url
reference where it's explained or the dir is posted?

With kind regards Kevin Moesker.

I believe it's only for members on the stage, although I think taking the
image of a member in the case has the same effect. Apart from rendering your
own bitmap text engine, I don't think there's a workround (although perhaps
a double-byte font might work, not a bad idea). I also don't know if you get
the same problem with antialiased vector shapes or Flash files - you'd
expect it, really, since I believe the text render engine and vector engine
are closely related.

Danny

The poppy server we're using is soon to be decommissioned so I began moving
content off that site and have been making plans to post it elsewhere. Sorry
that I didn't put up anything saying "gone for now, contact me if you need
things". For now we have time to leave a few things up for the next month or
so, therefore I've put the flash integration content back up:

<http://poppy.macromedia.com/~thiggins/flash_integration>

And of course in there you'll find the video texture content you were
originally seeking.

I believe that this one has been fixed and verified by our German QA on a
variety of systems. I do seem to recall that once this was fixed there were
a few visual glitches that were found (characters not rendering correctly),
but I don't immediately recall what the status of those issues is at this
time (we're not done just yet!).
