Avid DS Nitris <- > XSI 4.0

that was somewhat implicit in what Cedar wrote.  XSI 4.0 was the first Avid app
released with MXF support, updating to DS 7.5, when it becomes available, will
be required.  DNxHD (afaik, not technically lossless) is the Avid standard HD
codec, it what's used when producing compressed HD MXF file for Avid HD
products (uncompressed format is also available).  DV50 and other SD codecs are
available in SD.  The GEN file format (the DS internal video storage) is
obsolete and is no longer supported in XSI, as all Avid applications will be
moving to using MXF this summer/fall as their common native format.

There is also DNxHD (extremely small, lossless HD compression) support within
XSI 4.0, which is included in the latest version of DS. I've also noticed
support for .gen files, but I'm not sure if they are new to 4.0.

I use DS. The only new feature of note is MXF format support. MXF will be the
new capture codec for both Adrenaline and DS. In DS this should show up
sometime in the fall with 7.5. You still have AAF metadata export and zpic.
That's about it. Everyone on the DS list is hoping for Avid 3D (XSI lite)
integration soon.

Perhaps this is a bit off topic, but do any of you work on the Avid DS
Nitris? I was curious to know how well XSI 4.0 and the latest DS system
work together. My boss, while at NAB2004, was informed that XSI 4.0
would bring enhanced support for the DS, but this was never officially
mentioned.

Just curious.

Cody.
