I 've been trying to simulate a ragged 3 dimensional structure with
the 3d structure of a marble texture. As far as I can tell all textures
3-d or not map just to the surface of an objeIf anyone remembers there was an old 3d software GIG3D which
had meta primitives.
Is there any other software which could do this today?
Would you do this in maya?

what Jason described here works very well
this is what I used to have fiine gravel on the floor
fall of with distance. Make sure you use quatratic filtering too.

You should be able to create BOT files on any supported OS with the
appropriate MEL command on that OS. You can do this in batch mode so it can
all be done from the command line.
